THE EVANGELISTIC FIELD COMES TO US- 02.2024

One of three English classes.

It is a thrill to start a new year of classes here at Gathering Hearts For Honduras. You can see from the pictures we have a great turn-out this year. Due to the heavy rainy season from November to February, most schools in Honduras start in February and end in November. Our classes have grown over the years from a handful of students to now 217 students; in addition to our junior high and children’s programs.  Many of the students have not had the opportunity to hear the Gospel and to accept Christ. It seems the Lord has brought the “fields that are white already to harvest” to us.

Academic Scholarships in Need

As you know, we normally do not let our needs be known, unless it concerns the people themselves. Thus, we are sharing a financial need for our local children.  We try to scholarship needy children in our community to a private school where they can receive more care and higher education.  Some of these children have been abandoned or have special needs. They also begin their classes this month. It costs $850 a year for one scholarship. We would appreciate you considering sponsoring one of these children, pictured below.

Denny Boersema Comes to Our Aid Again

Denny preaching at TEE last Sunday with Pastor Nelson translating.

We are privileged to have Denny Boersoma again to visit us. This is the 28th time Denny has been here with us in Gathering Hearts For Honduras. Denny, an educator from Kalamazoo, MI, is helping to orient these new students as well as continue to train our teachers. Denny also preaches on Sunday mornings the “Simple” Gospel to help new Christians, understand the Bible and incorporated into their lives.

From village paths to ocean shores, the Memorial Heights Baptist Church team made an eternal impact during their mission trip to Honduras (May 29–June 5). Through evangelism, worship, and baptisms, lives were changed, faith was strengthened, and the Gospel was proclaimed in powerful ways. Here's a look at how God moved throughout the week.

In Honduras, Holy Week is one of the most sacred and widely observed times of the year—celebrated with as much reverence and cultural significance as Christmas.

For more than twenty-five years, Gary has walked faithfully from village to village, door to door, person to person—bringing not only the message of Christ, but genuine care for the everyday needs of the people.

On April 6, Temple Evangelical Emmanuel joyfully marked its 14th anniversary—a moment to celebrate all God has done and reflect on how far we’ve come. I couldn’t help but think back to those early days when only a handful of us gathered each Sunday. At the time, we had no idea that we were laying the groundwork for what would become a vibrant, growing congregation that now fills the sanctuary with worship and praise. This year, I sensed a renewed urgency to empower the church body. Rather than relying solely on Pastor Nelson, Gary Kuney, or the leadership team, I challenged the members to see themselves as vessels—fully capable and called to share Christ within their own villages. Our focus shifted toward mobilizing the congregation to bring the Gospel to their neighbors, to step into the calling we all share as believers. Gary and Cheryl carry a deep sense of urgency for church members to take personal responsibility for evangelizing their friends and family and reaching their village with the hope of Christ. Their passion is a reminder that the Great Commission is for all of us. Step out in faith. Share your story. Be the light. The response has been deeply encouraging. Many who only recently came to faith are now boldly going out to share the Good News. Watching them embrace this mission with passion and joy has been a powerful reminder that God doesn’t call the equipped—He equips the called. What a blessing it is to witness this new wave of evangelism, led by ordinary people stepping into an extraordinary purpose.
