A Week of Transformation: Memorial Heights Team Brings the Gospel to Honduras

Cheryl Kuney • June 7, 2025

From village paths to ocean shores, the Memorial Heights Baptist Church team made an eternal impact during their mission trip to Honduras (May 29–June 5). Through evangelism, worship, and baptisms, lives were changed, faith was strengthened, and the Gospel was proclaimed in powerful ways. Here's a look at how God moved throughout the week.

We’re filled with joy and gratitude as we share an exciting update from the mission field in Honduras. From May 29 to June 5, a passionate mission team from Memorial Heights Baptist Church joined us on the ground—and their week was nothing short of Spirit-filled.

The team hit the ground running, visiting small villages like Tronconeras, Chameleconsito, Campo Verde, Casa Azul, Campana, and Puente Alto—bringing encouragement, prayer, and the Gospel to families and pastors in each community. They preached in churches including Iglesia de Dios, Espíritu Santo Church, Alfa y Omega Church, and Templo Evangélico Emanuel.

On Friday night, we held a powerful open-air gathering at the sports park on the Gathering Hearts for Honduras campus, where several churches worshiped together in unity. Mr. Allen Siemiars boldly shared the Gospel while others knelt in prayer. What a sight to behold!

One of the most moving moments came Sunday, June 1st, as we gathered for a baptism service on the beach. Three new believers publicly declared their faith in Jesus—a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do.

Throughout the week, evangelism continued in remote areas, and the church was strengthened. The light of Christ is shining brighter in Honduras, thanks to your prayers and support.

We are deeply indebted to Denny Boersema and Southern Heights Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for their ongoing partnership with Gathering Hearts for Honduras. Denny has faithfully invested in our teachers—training, encouraging, and walking alongside them in both their professional growth and their walk with the Lord. Since many of our teachers are not professionally trained, having Denny—a seasoned educator—pour into them has been an incredible answer to prayer. In his own words, “I spent a lot of time one-on-one with the teachers about their teaching habits.” But Denny’s impact goes even further. He has built meaningful relationships with both teachers and students, inspiring them to pursue education and deepen their faith. Over the years, Denny has made 31 trips to GHH—helping with construction, teaching in our church (Templo Evangelical Emmanuel), and equipping young people with skills they might otherwise never have the chance to acquire. Truly, his sacrificial time and commitment are a treasure to this community and Gathering Hearts for Honduras.

A Team on Mission: Faith, Healing & A Bold Witness In June, a mission team from Christ Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, OK returned to Honduras—many of them veterans of past trips—to serve both medically and spiritually in the villages. Their hearts for the people of Honduras were on full display as they poured themselves out through long hours of ministry, even serving one day without power. Some team members ventured out to a remote, impoverished village to bring medical help and the message of Christ. Others stayed behind to treat patients at our mission center. Everywhere they went, they carried the Gospel.

God is moving in powerful and personal ways across Honduras—and your prayers and support have helped prepare the way. In this special update, we want to share a story of true Kingdom partnership: from a visiting mission team faithfully sharing the Gospel one-on-one, to a local discipleship team returning to help new believers grow in their faith. It’s a beautiful picture of the body of Christ working together, and it’s only the beginning.

In Honduras, Holy Week is one of the most sacred and widely observed times of the year—celebrated with as much reverence and cultural significance as Christmas.
