A Joyful Visit, A Christmas Miracle, and a New School Year!

Celebrating Friendship, Ministry Growth, and the Start of Something New

February was an exciting month for Gathering Hearts for Honduras! We had the incredible joy of welcoming four of our longtime board members—Tom and Janet Hagen, along with Mike and Janice Fellman—for a special visit to Honduras. Their timing couldn’t have been better! Not only did they get to experience our ministry firsthand, but they also arrived just in time to help us distribute long-awaited Christmas gifts to children in need. Plus, we kicked off a brand-new school year, welcoming fresh faces and growing our community. Come along as we share the highlights of this unforgettable week!

A Christmas Miracle: The Gifts Arrive Just in Time!

If there’s one thing we know, it’s that God’s timing is always perfect! Since December 24th, we had been waiting (and praying!) for a shipping container filled with Christmas gifts and much-needed supplies to be released. Finally, after nearly two months of delays, extra fees, and countless prayers, the container arrived—the day before our team and board members landed in Honduras!

Can you imagine the excitement? Tom, who had worked so hard to ship these gifts, finally got to see the fruits of his labor. He, along with our team, hand-delivered presents to children in remote villages—many of whom have never received a Christmas gift before. The joy on their faces? Absolutely priceless. It was a moment of celebration, gratitude, and pure Christmas magic (even in February!).

Old Friends, New Memories

For over 30 years, Tom and Janet Hagen and Mike and Janice Fellman have been dear friends and devoted supporters of Gathering Hearts for Honduras. As board members for the past 25 years, they’ve helped guide and grow this ministry—but this trip was extra special.

During their time in Honduras, they didn’t just observe the ministry; they jumped right in! Here are some of the incredible things they got to be a part of:

  • Graduation Day: They cheered on our students at the year-end graduation ceremony—such a proud moment!
  • Teaching & Encouraging:
  • Tom and Mike shared an uplifting Sunday morning message in the community of TEE.
  • Janet and Janice led a discipleship class for junior high girls and ministered to the TEE women’s group.
  • They also trained our church members on how to share their faith with others, equipping them to spread the Gospel in their own communities.
  • Building Lasting Connections: Meeting the people behind the ministry was life-changing for them. As Janice beautifully put it, “We all really enjoyed meeting the people there. Our hearts are definitely drawn more to pray and care for each of those we met.”

Moments like these remind us that Gathering Hearts for Honduras isn’t just about programs or projects—it’s about people, relationships, and faith in action.

New School Year, New Opportunities

While we were celebrating our board members' visit, something else exciting was happening—school was back in session! February marked the start of our English, Bible, and computer classes, and we were thrilled to welcome both new and returning students.

This year, nearly 200 students are enrolled, and here’s the best part—every class is an opportunity to share the Gospel. Already, we’ve seen students come to Christ, and discipleship groups are forming to help them grow in their faith. Education at GHH is about so much more than books and lessons; it’s about equipping students with knowledge, skills, and most importantly, a deep understanding of God’s love.

From village paths to ocean shores, the Memorial Heights Baptist Church team made an eternal impact during their mission trip to Honduras (May 29–June 5). Through evangelism, worship, and baptisms, lives were changed, faith was strengthened, and the Gospel was proclaimed in powerful ways. Here's a look at how God moved throughout the week.

In Honduras, Holy Week is one of the most sacred and widely observed times of the year—celebrated with as much reverence and cultural significance as Christmas.

On April 6, Temple Evangelical Emmanuel joyfully marked its 14th anniversary—a moment to celebrate all God has done and reflect on how far we’ve come. I couldn’t help but think back to those early days when only a handful of us gathered each Sunday. At the time, we had no idea that we were laying the groundwork for what would become a vibrant, growing congregation that now fills the sanctuary with worship and praise. This year, I sensed a renewed urgency to empower the church body. Rather than relying solely on Pastor Nelson, Gary Kuney, or the leadership team, I challenged the members to see themselves as vessels—fully capable and called to share Christ within their own villages. Our focus shifted toward mobilizing the congregation to bring the Gospel to their neighbors, to step into the calling we all share as believers. Gary and Cheryl carry a deep sense of urgency for church members to take personal responsibility for evangelizing their friends and family and reaching their village with the hope of Christ. Their passion is a reminder that the Great Commission is for all of us. Step out in faith. Share your story. Be the light. The response has been deeply encouraging. Many who only recently came to faith are now boldly going out to share the Good News. Watching them embrace this mission with passion and joy has been a powerful reminder that God doesn’t call the equipped—He equips the called. What a blessing it is to witness this new wave of evangelism, led by ordinary people stepping into an extraordinary purpose.
