The Heart Behind the Mission

Each year, the children of Campana, Honduras, experience the joy of Christmas thanks to the unwavering dedication of Callie Farish and her sister, Laura Keys. Their efforts have become the driving force behind nearly 1,000 Christmas gifts delivered to the children in this impoverished community, bringing light and love to families in need.

Mobilizing a Community for a Greater Cause

Callie and Laura, despite their full-time jobs, academic commitments, and responsibilities as mothers, have gone above and beyond to make this mission a reality. With hearts full of compassion, they have mobilized Christ Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, along with other generous supporters, to collect, package, and prepare these Christmas gifts. Their dedication is a testament to the true spirit of giving.

The Logistics Behind the Generosity

A crucial part of this mission is the support of Tom Hagen, a longtime friend of the Kuney family, who has been responsible for shipping goods for Gathering Hearts for Honduras for the past 25 years. His commitment to ensuring these gifts reach their destination is invaluable. This year, despite unexpected delays at the dock that resulted in daily fees as cargo was processed, the shipment arrived just in time—one day before Tom himself landed in Honduras.

A Perfectly Timed Delivery

The timely arrival of these gifts was nothing short of divine intervention. It allowed Tom and Janet, along with Mike and Janice, to be personally involved in distributing them to the children. Witnessing the joy and gratitude of these young recipients was a powerful reminder of the impact that love and generosity can have, even in the most challenging circumstances.

The Power of Giving

This incredible effort would not be possible without the selflessness and dedication of Callie, Laura, Tom, and the countless individuals who contribute to this mission. Their work is a reflection of Christ’s love, reminding us all of the importance of giving, especially to those in need.

From village paths to ocean shores, the Memorial Heights Baptist Church team made an eternal impact during their mission trip to Honduras (May 29–June 5). Through evangelism, worship, and baptisms, lives were changed, faith was strengthened, and the Gospel was proclaimed in powerful ways. Here's a look at how God moved throughout the week.

On April 6, Temple Evangelical Emmanuel joyfully marked its 14th anniversary—a moment to celebrate all God has done and reflect on how far we’ve come. I couldn’t help but think back to those early days when only a handful of us gathered each Sunday. At the time, we had no idea that we were laying the groundwork for what would become a vibrant, growing congregation that now fills the sanctuary with worship and praise. This year, I sensed a renewed urgency to empower the church body. Rather than relying solely on Pastor Nelson, Gary Kuney, or the leadership team, I challenged the members to see themselves as vessels—fully capable and called to share Christ within their own villages. Our focus shifted toward mobilizing the congregation to bring the Gospel to their neighbors, to step into the calling we all share as believers. Gary and Cheryl carry a deep sense of urgency for church members to take personal responsibility for evangelizing their friends and family and reaching their village with the hope of Christ. Their passion is a reminder that the Great Commission is for all of us. Step out in faith. Share your story. Be the light. The response has been deeply encouraging. Many who only recently came to faith are now boldly going out to share the Good News. Watching them embrace this mission with passion and joy has been a powerful reminder that God doesn’t call the equipped—He equips the called. What a blessing it is to witness this new wave of evangelism, led by ordinary people stepping into an extraordinary purpose.
