Serving Christ and Loving our Neighbors in Honduras

Our Mission: Serving Christ by Serving Others

Founded in 1999 by Gary and Cheryl Kuney, Gathering Hearts exists to serve those in great need in Honduras—spiritually, physically, and financially. We follow Jesus' example of love and compassion by bringing hope to those who need it most. From vocational training to medical clinics, every effort we make is designed to share the Gospel while meeting essential human needs. Our ultimate goal is to empower lives through the message of Christ and practical community development.

“I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”

Sharing the Gospel since 1999 through vocational training, youth education, medical care, and more! Located just 20 minutes south of Puerto Cortes, Honduras.

Why Honduras?

Honduras is a country of beautiful people, but it faces significant challenges. It is ranked as the second-poorest country in Central America, with widespread poverty affecting access to clean water, quality medical care, and education. Many face struggles such as lack of sufficient income, food insecurity, and a scarcity of healthcare. The people of Honduras also need to hear the hope of the Gospel.

At Gathering Hearts, we see not just the challenges, but the incredible opportunities to make a difference. We’re called to bring God’s love to every corner of Honduras, to meet needs and change lives in His name.

On April 6, Temple Evangelical Emmanuel joyfully marked its 14th anniversary—a moment to celebrate all God has done and reflect on how far we’ve come. I couldn’t help but think back to those early days when only a handful of us gathered each Sunday. At the time, we had no idea that we were laying the groundwork for what would become a vibrant, growing congregation that now fills the sanctuary with worship and praise. This year, I sensed a renewed urgency to empower the church body. Rather than relying solely on Pastor Nelson, Gary Kuney, or the leadership team, I challenged the members to see themselves as vessels—fully capable and called to share Christ within their own villages. Our focus shifted toward mobilizing the congregation to bring the Gospel to their neighbors, to step into the calling we all share as believers. Gary and Cheryl carry a deep sense of urgency for church members to take personal responsibility for evangelizing their friends and family and reaching their village with the hope of Christ. Their passion is a reminder that the Great Commission is for all of us. Step out in faith. Share your story. Be the light. The response has been deeply encouraging. Many who only recently came to faith are now boldly going out to share the Good News. Watching them embrace this mission with passion and joy has been a powerful reminder that God doesn’t call the equipped—He equips the called. What a blessing it is to witness this new wave of evangelism, led by ordinary people stepping into an extraordinary purpose.
